Verse 9

Attend not
to the one essence,
yet hope to ascend
to the Supreme?
Knowledge is in vain
without the company
of the Knowing ones.
Attend to their ways
and lo,
worldly matters cease
their chatter.

One may gather knowledge, but it is useless if the mind is not fixed on the Supreme essence. That unity is grasped in the company of the Wise ones and then life is all music. Pay attention to their thoughts, speech and actions, for they embody the essence. Worldly worries, pain and negativities will stop bothering you.

Verse 8

The path to the Being
traverses from consciousness
through the company of
the Wise ones.
The self pours out
in devotion
to unite with the Being
dissolving separateness.
Thus is developed
a taste for the elixir,
thus is learnt the art of living.
The realization is instantaneous
and help immediate at hand.
The step is simple, yet
rarely seen.

To understand the myriad ways of the mind, you have to seek the company of the Wise ones. Our utterances come from the self and can reach the essence of the soul, by their Grace. Once you taste the bliss, you will grow eager to have it again. The adept ones unite such practices with their daily living. With devotion overflowing, the result is electric and instantaneous, as evidenced in the cases of Prahlada and Uddhava. Jnaneswara says the path is so simple, yet not many are seen to take it.

Verse 7

Neglecting the being,
go round and round
to slide down to a quagmire.
Babbling incessantly
will get you nowhere.
What you want is
within us all
and ardour alone will hand it to you.

Neglecting the being will lead you astray or make you babble incessantly. It is a sign of going off centre into the whirlpool of worldly affairs. Your centre is within you and everyone.

Verse 6

All experience goes into
itself,
the self dissolves into being
as you realize it in the company
of the Wise ones;
like camphor lights up, burns and
no trace.
The company of the Wise one
is your good fortune; may
you yearn after it and see
the essence and
feel it around - in society, nature and yourself.

Comprehension arises in the company of the Wise ones, dissolving all awareness of separateness. It is their grace that enables you to touch your being and then you experience it in all life around and within you.
